This tutorial explains how to disable the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) on Porsche vehicles using the PIWIS III diagnostic software with a VXDIAG for PIWI 3 interface. This procedure is commonly performed after tire replacement when TPMS is no longer needed.
Please note that this operation involves modifying vehicle control unit configurations and should be performed carefully. Professional technician supervision is recommended.
1. Physically Disconnect the TPMS Control Unit
Before using the software, you need to physically disconnect the TPMS control unit, so the CAN controller no longer detects it.
-
The TPMS control unit is located in the front trunk, next to the brake fluid reservoir.
Steps:
-
Remove and unplug the dome light on the cowling plastic.
Unscrew all the fasteners holding the entire plastic panel. Most screws are on top near the seal, with one on each lower side. -
Locate the TPMS control unit (part number 997 618 103 06) and unplug it.
Do not remove the module, so it can be reconnected in the future if needed. -
Reassemble the front trunk.

2. Perform TPMS Coding via PIWIS III Software
-
Connect the VXDIAG PIWIS III diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s OBDII port. Launch the PIWIS software and perform a full vehicle scan.
-
Select “Gateway”, then enter “Coding”, followed by “Required Control Units List”.
-
Locate “Tire Pressure Monitoring System”, set it to “Not Installed”, and proceed to code the change.

3. Code the Instrument Cluster
The next step is to update the coding in the instrument cluster. You’ll need your engine number during this process, so have it ready.
-
Go to “Instrument Cluster”, then “Coding”, and select “Vehicle Variants”.
-
Follow the on-screen prompts to select:
-
Model Year
-
Model
-
Roof Version
-
Country Code (e.g., 02 for USA/Puerto Rico)
-
-
Next, choose the correct Version (typically 553 for USA/Canada).
-
In the “Individual and Exclusive Equipment” section, highlight all applicable options such as:
-
454: Cruise Control
-
023: Silver Gauge Faces
IMPORTANT: Do NOT select 423 or 483, as these represent the
TPMS options for the instrument cluster. Selecting them will reactivate TPMS.
-
Proceed to the “Audio and Communication” section and select the features relevant to your vehicle.
-
Continue to “Wheel Size”, then enter your Engine Number when prompted.
-
Press F8 to finalize and code all changes.
4. TPMS Is Now Disabled
After completing all steps above, the TPMS system will be fully disabled on the vehicle. Both hardware recognition and instrument cluster alerts will be turned off.
If needed, you can always reconnect the module and re-enable it by reversing the process.
Important Notes
-
This tutorial is based on VXDIAG PIWIS III original-level diagnostic tools and software.
-
It is highly recommended to be performed by qualified technicians.
-
Always back up original coding data before making changes.
-
Proceed at your own risk, as this involves system-level configuration.
