Struggling with Xentry Passthru? Here’s Why VXDIAG VCX SE is the Better Option
As an auto repair shop owner, I recently bought and tested two J2534 Passthru devices: VXDIAG VCX SE and Scanmatik 2 Pro, to use with the Xentry Passthru software. While my experience might not be the most objective, I’d like to share my take on these two devices and how they performed in real-world applications.
Scanmatik 2 Pro Performance
The Scanmatik 2 Pro performs fairly well in certain areas. It supports diagnostic software like DAS, Xentry, and Vediamo 4. However, when it comes to older cars (especially those built before 2005), it doesn’t always fully recognize them or sometimes not at all. Additionally, its performance with truck diagnostics isn’t great, especially when working with trucks that require DAS. Scanmatik 2 Pro completely fails there.
When using newer versions of Xentry (such as Xentry Cars 2024.09), the Scanmatik 2 Pro struggles with certain newer Mercedes models and even has compatibility issues with the SD Connect C4, which was another issue I encountered during use.
VXDIAG VCX SE Performance
On the other hand, I found the VXDIAG VCX SE to be a more versatile device. It supports DoIP technology and the latest versions of Xentry software. Whether you’re using Xentry Openshell or Passthru mode, the VXDIAG VCX SE runs smoothly.
When diagnosing newer models (like the 2021 MB W167), the VXDIAG VCX SE was really reliable—it didn’t have the login issues I experienced with Scanmatik 2 Pro. In Passthru mode, the VXDIAG VCX SE worked perfectly, while Scanmatik 2 Pro didn’t work at all. In some cases, Xentry Cars 2023.12 couldn’t even connect in Passthru mode with Scanmatik 2 Pro.
Conclusion
From my experience with both devices, I believe the VXDIAG VCX SE is undoubtedly the more reliable and multi-functional diagnostic tool. It not only supports the latest Mercedes-Benz models but also performs smoothly without compatibility or connection issues, especially when used with Xentry software. On the other hand, Scanmatik 2 Pro, while performing well in some areas, struggles with older models and has issues with newer Mercedes or truck diagnostics.
