2008 XC70 Diagnosis: Using VXDIAG Scanner to Resolve Engine Fault Codes and AC Issues

I recently picked up a beautiful 2008 XC70, and it's been having some issues. Twice now, it’s had a "jerk" motion—once on Saturday with cruise control on, and again on Monday morning while accelerating without cruise control. I couldn’t tell if the RPMs dropped during either instance.

Then on Monday afternoon, it stalled at a stoplight, similar to how newer cars auto shut off when you're at a stop. All the dash lights came on, and I lost power steering, acceleration, and AC. After turning the car off and on again, the check engine light stayed off.

After doing some research with my dad, we checked the AC drain, which was clogged. The passenger floor was a bit damp, but after blowing it out with compressed air, it started draining properly.

Yesterday afternoon, the check engine light came on as soon as I started the car. I checked the fluids, and everything looked good. I tried reversing, and the car seemed to misfire, with a loud thunk from the engine bay. I decided not to drive it and left it in the parking lot at work.

Today, I used my VXDIAG scanner for VOLVO to check the codes and got 3 main ones:

• P0018: Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation (Bank 2, Sensor A)
• P0016: Crankshaft Position/Camshaft Position, Bank 1 Sensor A
• C0300: Random Misfire (not 100% sure)

I also got a pending C0700: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction, with the two crankshaft errors also showing as pending.

It seems like the car might have had previous issues, according to the Carfax report.

TL;DR: Two jerks, a stall, and 3 or 4 check engine errors.
