Is GM Locking Out Third-Party Modules? Why Your SPS Can't See the VIN.
Problem:
"I keep getting a 'VIN not readable' error when using SPS (Service Programming System). Other functions, like Tech2 and GDS2, open and run normally without any issues. But SPS can't recognize the vehicle, so I can't reflash anything, which was the main reason I bought the device. I'm a bit concerned that GM is restricting non-official modules."
Solution from VXDIAG.COM:
"When prompted by SPS, you need to install the J2534 wrapper. However, this installation keeps failing on your computer.
- Close Internet Explorer (IE) browser and restart it as an administrator.
- Reopen SPS and try to install the J2534 wrapper again.
- This time it should succeed. Once successful, you will see a new graphical user interface (GUI) window pop up after selecting the J2534 tool, allowing you to choose the VXDIAG tool.
- This should allow you to successfully begin diagnosis."
