Why Do You Need to Disable Antivirus Software or Firewalls When Using VXDIAG Devices?

When installing and using the VXDIAG diagnostic device, we often remind users: please disable antivirus software or firewalls, or add all necessary software to the whitelist. This does not mean our software is unsafe; rather, it is for the following reasons:

1. Offline software characteristics
The diagnostic software provided with VXDIAG is an offline version, designed mainly for testing and learning, and does not include full online functionality. If you have official OEM software, our device fully supports it. We even recommend obtaining an official online subscription if complete functionality is required (note: we do not provide this).
Because the software has not been certified with Microsoft’s official digital signature, some antivirus or security programs may mistakenly classify it as an “unknown program” or even a “potential threat,” blocking the installation or deleting files directly.

2. Firewall blocking communication
VXDIAG devices rely on network interfaces to communicate between the computer and the vehicle. If the firewall is not properly configured, it may block normal data transmission between the device and the diagnostic software, resulting in errors such as “device not connected” or “communication failed.”

3. Accidental deletion of critical drivers and patches
During diagnosis, specific drivers and patch files are required. If antivirus software mistakenly deletes them, the software may fail to launch, or some modules may not be recognized.

4. Ensuring stable diagnostics
Automotive diagnostics and programming often require a long period of stable connection. If antivirus software or a firewall interrupts with pop-ups or forcibly blocks a program during the process, it can significantly reduce the success rate of diagnostics and programming.

Correct Procedure

  • Before installing or using the VXDIAG device, please disable antivirus software and firewalls;

  • Or add VX Manager, the diagnostic software installation directory, and related drivers to the whitelist/trusted zone;

  • After installation and confirming the device is working properly, you may re-enable your security software. However, please note that after restarting, some drivers may again be flagged and removed. In such cases, simply re-download the drivers/software and disable the antivirus/firewall before your next diagnostic session.

Conclusion

Disabling antivirus software or adjusting firewall settings does not reduce your computer’s security. Instead, it prevents misidentification and interference, allowing the VXDIAG diagnostic device to function properly. As long as you follow the instructions, your computer remains safe.
